PAS Industrial Pressure Transmitter
The KOBOLD PAS is a heavy-duty industrial pressure transmitter that uses a
piezoresistive sensor to measure gauge or absolute pressure across ranges from
-14.5 to 21.7 psig up to 0 to 8700 psig. This microprocessor-based instrument
delivers a scalable 4-20 mA output with a superimposed HART signal and a reference
accuracy of ±0.075% of calibrated span.
Accuracy and Long-Term Stability
The PAS provides a reference accuracy of ±0.075% of calibrated span, a rangeability
of 100:1, and long-term stability of ±0.125% URL over 36 months. It is designed to
hold this performance across the full measuring span, which can be configured
anywhere inside the range limits as long as the span meets or exceeds the minimum
span.
Temperature Compensation and Self-Diagnostics
The PAS automatically compensates for ambient temperature and process variables,
and its software corrects for thermal effects using temperature and pressure
coefficients stored in EEPROM. A continuous self-diagnostic function monitors the
CPU, analog module, communication, and sensor-module temperature, and the
transmitter supports fail-high and fail-low output modes for detected faults.
Configuration and HART Setup
The PAS communicates over the HART protocol, so operational parameters, engineering
units, the 4-20 mA zero and span, and damping from 0.25 to 60 seconds can be
configured from any compatible host. Tag, descriptor, and message fields are also
user-configurable for identification within a control system.
Wetted Materials and Construction
Wetted parts include 316L stainless steel isolating diaphragms and a 316 stainless
steel connection thread, with silicone oil as the fill fluid. The flameproof
aluminum housing is rated IP67, and a 316L stainless steel housing is available as
an option.
Electrical Connection and Power
The PAS is a two-wire transmitter powered by 12 to 45 VDC, with 17.5 to 45 VDC
required for HART communication. Electrical connection is made through a 1/2-inch
NPT or G1/2 conduit with M4 screw terminals. Maximum load is 250 Ω at 17.5 VDC and
550 Ω at 24 VDC.
Application Guide Required for Product Specification
**This product requires completion of our Application Guide before specification and ordering.**
This product line offers multiple configuration options and technical specifications that must be precisely matched to/calibrated for your specific application requirements. Unlike standard configurable items, these products are engineered solutions that require detailed application information to ensure optimal performance.
The Process
- Complete the Application Guide - Provide detailed information about your specific application
- Technical Review - Our engineering team reviews your requirements
- Product Specification - We specify the exact configuration for your needs
- Quotation & Ordering - Receive your custom quote with precise part numbers
Important Notice
Unless this is a repeat order of a previously specified product with Kobold, we cannot accept orders or provide quotations without a completed Application Guide. Product numbers selected without proper application review may not meet your system requirements and could result in performance issues or compatibility problems.
Even if you believe you've identified the correct part number, the Application Guide process is required to verify compatibility and ensure a streamlined quote/order process.

Common Questions about PAS - Heavy-Duty Industrial Pressure Transmitter
The PAS uses a piezoresistive sensor that converts applied pressure into a
resistance change, which the sensor module turns into a digital value. The
microprocessor then calculates the process pressure and applies correction
coefficients stored in EEPROM. The same sensor can be supplied to read either gauge
or absolute pressure.
The gauge version (PAS-G) covers spans from -14.5 to 21.7 psig up to 0 to 8700
psig, and the absolute version (PAS-A) covers 0 to 36 psia up to 0 to 362 psia. Zero
and span can be set anywhere within the range limits, provided the span is at least
the minimum span.
Reference accuracy is ±0.075% of span when the span is between 0.1 URL and the
upper range limit. For narrower turndowns between 0.01 URL and 0.1 URL, accuracy
follows ±[0.025 + 0.005 × (URL/span)]% of span, so the accuracy figure scales with
how much turndown is applied.
The PAS is a two-wire device with a 4-20 mA output configurable for linear
response. A digital process value is superimposed on the 4-20 mA signal and is
available to any host that conforms to the HART protocol. The update time is 0.12
seconds and the turn-on time is 3 seconds.
The process temperature range is -40 to 248°F (-40 to 120°C) and the ambient
temperature range is -4 to 140°F (-20 to 60°C). Storage temperature is -4 to 185°F
(-20 to 85°C), non-condensing, and the humidity limit is 5% to 100% RH. Approval
codes may affect the stated limits.
The isolating diaphragms are 316L stainless steel, the connection thread is 316
stainless steel, and the fill fluid is silicone oil. The standard process connection
is 1/2-inch NPT female, and other process connections can be supplied through
diaphragm seals, which are specified separately with the Application Guide.
The order code follows the pattern PAS-[version][material][range][fill][connection]
[electrical][approval][options], for example PAS-G EE 3 S 4 N S0 0. G selects gauge
and A selects absolute pressure, EE is 316L SS/316 SS, and approvals cover standard
IP67, ATEX flameproof (Ex d), and ATEX intrinsically safe (Ex i). Option N, mounting
onto a diaphragm seal, requires a completed Application Guide.
ATEX approval is available as an option in three protection types: flameproof (II
2G Ex db IIC T6 to T4 Gb), dust (II 2D Ex tb IIIC T85°C to T130°C Db), and
intrinsically safe (II 1G or 2G Ex ia IIC T5 or T4 Ga or Gb). The standard housing
is rated IP67 under protection code S.
The PAS has a standard 5-digit LCD that shows the process value in the engineering
units you configure. It is designed for upright mounting and can be secured to a
2-inch pipe with an optional bracket that uses a 304 stainless steel U-bolt. Bracket
styles ZUB-PAD/PAS-K and ZUB-PAD/PAS-L are available.
A 2-way direct-mount manifold valve (ZUB-PAS-2BMN) is available in AISI 316L, rated
6000 psi (414 bar), with a 1/2-inch NPT female inlet, 1/2-inch NPT male outlet, and
1/4-inch NPT female drain. It ships with one plug and one cap and weighs 2.38 lbs
(1.08 kg).
